How to Understand Quantum Computers: 6 Steps
This article will give you the basic tips on what a quantum computer is, and how they will work in the future if they are invented. They are in development currently and lots of research is still required, but one day all computers may run this way.
Steps
1. A normal computer runs off bits and bytes. Quantum computers run on qbits (quantum bits)
2. These bits exist in multiple states simultaneously allowing them to do multiple calculations at once.
3. This allows them to be on a level of magnitude above normal computers in speed.
4. The main problem with these bits is they only exist in these states for a very short time and only in specific conditions.
5. When they "fall out" of this state they no longer work the same way, for a quantum computer to work it must keep the qbits in this state permanently, but still be able to access them.
6. This causes all the problems with building a quantum computer and there is still research to be done to understand them further.
