How to Use D‐Trail to Manage and Track Parcels: 4 Steps



D-trail is a parcel tracking and management application. It was developed to help delivery service companies optimize their delivery service through automated technology. The application allows for companies to provide their clients with proof of delivery reports and gives the companies a great chance to optimize their parcel delivery through web based reports and analytic which can be easily accessed in the application.D-Trail uses Quick Response (QR) code, which is placed on the parcels. The code represents information regarding the parcel such as the sender’s details, the place of delivery, the type of parcel and any other relevant information that the company uses to identify the parcels. The code can be scanned at various points during the transit of parcels and other freight, which then sends reports to the system describing the status of the parcel.



Steps


1. Open the d-trail website(www.d-trail.co.ke) and Click on the sign in link to log in the system by entering your user name and password.

2. Enter details of a new parcel. In the phone number field use the prefix 254 followed by the number i.e. 254729873442.

3. Whenever a rider takes a parcel to deliver, they have to scan the QR code on the parcel. This helps in tracking. Riders are registered by the admin and authorization codes assigned to them. This authorization code can be reset on the rider’s page. The check in button is for the riders to accept packages. The check out button is used when checking out the parcel to the client (recipient). You can scan as many packages as you want.All the transactions on the parcel and the GPS location where the transaction has originated from are logged in the system.

4. When checking out, a unique verification code is sent to the recipient through SMS. Then when entered into the app and authorizes the rider to give the package to the recipient.



Tips

  • Print the QR code and place it on the parcel you intend to send. Ensure you scan the code at various strategic points such as when the parcel reaches your subsidiary office, exchanges hands between couriers, or reaches its destination.
  • Use the statistical data that the application generates in form of charts and graphical reports to enhance your decision making process. This will help you ensure that the firm operates at the optimum level. You will be able to view an analysis of each courier's performance, the performance of each subsidiary office and the overall performance of the firm.



Warnings

  • Ensure you use the correct format to enter the telephone details of both the sender and the recipient of the parcel. The telephone number should begin with the prefix 254.
