How to Optimize Images for Search Engines: 3 Steps

Search engines can not read images the way people can. So any text or information contained on your site images is basically lost to the main search engine tabs such as Google Images, Yahoo Images and Bing Images. There are ways though to make images optimized for search engines – it helps attract and keep visitors to your site. And this is how.



Steps

1. Name the file. The name of the image file should be key phrases that you’re aiming to target.

2. Use Title Tags. The key phrases should be added in an image title tags.

3. Be sure to add Alt Attributes. Add key phrases also in an image ALT attribute.



Tips

• If there is more than one word, separate the key phrases with dashes. Don’t use underscores.
• The image and it’s description should be highly relevant to your website content.
