How to Increase Range on a Home Wi Fi: 3 Steps

How annoying to be uploading a picture while walking through your home and you hit "The Dead Zone" Some simple TLC can improve your home wireless router.

Steps

1. Move your router to the center of you upper floor. Keep televisions, stereos and metal furniture at least 5 feet away.

2. Give your modem a check up.If you are using a CATV ISO call them to verify your transmit levels,  receive levels, MER, t3 and t4 errors are all checking good.

3. Update your router, modem, laptop, NIC cards and all devices used on the network.

Tips

• Select a clean channel on your router. 1 & 11 are usually better than 6.
• Place your router on a small cookie sheet or buy a conductive wi fi mat. This gives the antenna a better ground plane and eliminates signal loss at the antenna.
