How to Get Higher up Google: 6 Steps (with Pictures)
Steps
1. Select the keywords for your website. These words should be related to your business, products or services. You need to be creative and take into account what search engine users will actually be typing in. Put yourself in their shoes and think what would you type in.
2. Place your keywords throughout your site. Place keywords in meta tags, header tags and page content.
3. Ensure that the content on your site is unique and has not simply been copied and pasted from another source. Search engines will reduce the rank of websites that have duplicate content.
4. Keep it current. Content throughout your website should regularly be updated. Adding a blog to your website with news and informative updates will help keep your site fresh. A blog can contain direct information related to your site and business or it could include articles about related businesses or news articles. Keeping users engaged is also key.
5. Increase the number of incoming links to your site. There are numerous companies that offer paid links and there are also companies that will swap your link for theirs i.e. you perform a two way link. Note - be careful in choosing a paid service, some websites will only place your links on spam websites that will only go against your website
6. Register your site with all of the major search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing etc. To do this go to a search engine, type in 'webmaster tools' and then create an account. Once you are registered with the webmaster tools for a particular engine there will be an option to verify your site. This will normally involve either downloading a file from the search engine and saving it on your website server or adding a meta tag with a verification code in.
Warnings
- If you employ 'black hat' techniques to increase the number of backlinks to your site, you run the risk of search engines either reducing your rank or banning you from their rankings all together. Always use ethical white hat techniques and do not spam.
