How to Customize FXO and CP Tones for Local Country Settings on Cisco Voice Router

Each country in the world has it's own Call Progress tones set by the Central office as per ministry of communication or similar institutions specifications to manage different call signalling within the country, Cisco Voice routers equipped with FXO used to connect to central office or ISP will come with default configurations which works in most countries, but in some countries where standards are not common you need to adjust the FXO and Call Progress Tones to match your Central office or ISP by following the below steps.

Steps

1. Get your country specific settings from the Central office or your ISP: These settings should include the frequency and cadence for each signal Busy, Ringback, Reorder and Out-of-service.

2. Access your router privilege level.

3. Create new Voice Class. See below example.
  • voice class custom-cptone cpt
  • dualtone busy
  • frequency 325 325
  • cadence 400 400
  • dualtone ringback
  • frequency 325 325
  • cadence 100 400
  • dualtone reorder
  • frequency 325 325
  • cadence 150 150
  • dualtone out-of-service
  • frequency 325 325
  • cadence 220 220

4. Go under the FXO port to assign the Custom CPtone.

  • voice-port 1/1/1
  • supervisory disconnect dualtone mid-call
  • supervisory custom-cptone cpt

5. Add additional settings.

  • no comfort-noise
  • timeouts call-disconnect 1
  • timeouts wait-release 1
  • timing hookflash-out 50
  • Connection Plar OPX ......(Extension of operator or Voicemail system)
  • caller-id enable

Tips

  • You need to consult with your Central office or ISP for your local settings.
  • optional settings are not required for customizing Call Progress tones and required only for extra functionality like enabling the caller ID or assigning the operator extension or redirecting calls to Voicemail system.
