How to Check Defect of Your PC: 12 Steps

Below are some easy steps on how you can easily troubleshoot your computer.

Steps

1. Start your computer and enter BIOS.
  • There are variations of buttons to press for different computers to access the BIOS.
  • Function key examples would be:
    • F2
    • F10
    • F12
  • Others may include DEL or ESC

2. Remain on the BIOS screen for 20 minutes.

3. If your computer remains in the BIOS screen and you do not hear a "beeping" sound, there is no issue with your hardware.

4. It means there is an issue with the software.

5. If the PC does not stay in BIOS, it means that there is an issue with hardware and not with software.

6. If there is issue with the software, reinstall the OS or ghost it or recover it.

7. If there is issue with hardware then analyze the symptoms.

8. If the display is not coming up, check the VGA cable and the monitor on another computer. If you dare to open the PC, then clean the RAM, RAM slots and short the CMOS battery. Last, open the CPU fan and open the processor socket and carefully clean them.

9. If the display is not coming even after that, check the motherboard for a hardware defect such as blown capacitors, a broken inductor coil, etc. You might identify an issue with the motherboard.

10. If the PC is not powering on, first check the power source and cable.

11. If the PC not powering on, then short the green and black pins of supply connector.

12. If the fan of supply moves means supply SMPS is OK and it is an issue with the motherboard.
