How to Activate Incognito Mode


Incognito mode, or private browsing, is a feature you can enable in any web browser to prevent others who use the same computer from being able to view your web history, downloads, autofill, and dialog box information. Incognito mode can be used if you want your browsing activities to be kept secret, or if you use a public computer and are concerned about safety and privacy. Follow any of these methods below to activate incognito mode in the browser of your choice.


Method 1 of 9: Incognito in Chrome using the Toolbar (PC and Mac Version)




1. Launch the Chrome browser on your computer.



2. Click on the  (Chrome menu) located in the toolbar.



3. Click on “New incognito window. Your Chrome browser will activate incognito mode and display an icon of a spy in the upper right corner. You can now browse privately in the incognito window.


Method 2 of 9: Incognito in Chrome using Keyboard Shortcuts(PC and Mac Only)




1. Open a Chrome session on your computer.



2. Press ^ Ctrl+ Shift+N at the same time to open an incognito window in Chrome. You will now be able to browse privately using Chrome.
  • If you are using a Mac, press + Shift+N to open an incognito window.


Method 3 of 9: Incognito in Chrome Using The Menu Bar (Android Only)


1. Tap  (three vertical dots)

2. Select New Incognito Tab.

3. Your Incognito mode is open. You can now browse freely on the new incognito tab without leaving any browsing history, search history and cookies behind.

Method 4 of 9: InPrivate Browsing in Internet Explorer



1. Open Internet Explorer (IE) on your computer.



2. Click on the “Safety” button from within the IE toolbar.



3. Click on “InPrivate Browsing. This will activate the feature for future sessions of IE.



4. Open a new tab within IE and select “Open an InPrivate Browsing Window.


















5. Press ^ Ctrl+ Shift+P at the same time. Any web browsing you perform during your current session of IE will be kept private


Method 5 of 9: Private Browsing in Safari


Safari For Mac

1. Open a session of Safari on your computer.

2. Click on “Safari” from the menu bar and select “Private Browsing.

3. Click “OK” when the private browsing confirmation box displays. A small button that reads “Private” will display within your Safari address bar, and all browsing you perform during your current session will be kept private.

Safari For iOS

1. Open Safari on iOS 7 home screen
  • For older version of iOS, Open Settings.

2. Tap Page or Open Pages icon on iOS 7.
  • For older version of iOS, Tap Safari.

3. Tap Private, then you will be asked either to keep all tabs, discard all tabs, or cancel in Safari for iOS 7.
  • For older version of iOS, turn on private browsing under privacy section, then you will be asked either to keep all tabs or discard all tabs

4. Your Safari private browsing is on.
  • To disable again,
    • Open Safari then Page or Open Pages icon, then tap Private and you will be prompted again to either keep all, discard all, or cancel in iOS 7.
    • Open Settings, then Safari, then set private browsing off then you will be asked either to keep all tabs or discard all tabs in previous version of iOS.

Method 6 of 9: Private Browsing Per-Session in Firefox


Firefox for PC and Mac



1. Launch the Firefox browser on your computer.
























2. Click on “File” from the menu bar within Firefox and select “New Private Window. Any browsing you perform in the new window will be kept private for your entire session.
  • To open new links in a private window, hold down “Control” as you click on a link and select “Open Link in New Private Window.”
Note

You can start private browsing in Firefox by pressing ^ Ctrl+ Shift+P (for Windows and Linux users) or + Shift+P (for Mac users)

Firefox for Mobile (Android Only)

1. Launch the Firefox browser on your device.

1. Tap  (three vertical dots) on the top-right corner of the window. If you don't see the three vertical dots, press  (the menu button) on your device.

2. Tap "New Private Tab".


3. You will see the new private tab on your device.

Add New Private Tab From Firefox Home

1. On Firefox Home, tap and hold links to be viewed in a private tab.

2. Tap "Open in Private Tab"


3. Tap the Firefox Tab button. Firefox Tab button is the picture of two cascaded tab with the number in the center.

















4. Go to Private Tab lists. Go to Private Tab lists by tapping the picture of a mask.

5. Finally, tap the website thumbnail you wish to open.

1. Tap the Firefox Tab button. Firefox Tab button is the picture of two cascaded tab with the number in the center.


















2. Go to Private Tab lists. Go to Private Tab lists by tapping the picture of a mask.


















3. Tap New Private Tab icon. The icon is located inside a white circle on the picture above.


















4. You will see the new private tab on your device.

Method 7 of 9: Private Browsing Indefinitely in Firefox (PC and Mac only)


1. Open Firefox on your computer.



2. Go to Tools and click on Options.



3. Click on Privacy tab and select "Never remember history"























4. Click on “OK” when the confirmation message appears. Firefox will restart, and all browsing you do in Firefox on your computer going forward will be kept private. 

Method 8 of 9: Private Browsing Session In Opera

















1. Open Opera on your computer.


















2. Click the "Opera" or "Menu" Button on top-left corner of Opera browsing window, in Windows.
  • On a Mac, click on the "File" instead.


















3. Click "Tabs and Windows." Then click either "New Private Tab" or "New Private Window."
  • On a Mac, you'll find these options directly under "File" in the menu.
















4. Use your private session. Your first welcome screen in Private mode might look like as it does above.
  • If you have checked "Do not show, again", you will see the Opera speed dial page. But, the tab icon is like a hotel room sign "Do not disturb".

5. Use shortcuts if desired to open new private windows/tabs while in Opera.
  • Windows:
    • Press ^ Ctrl+ Shift+N to open a new private window.
    • Press ^ Ctrl+T to open a new private tab.
  • Mac:
    • Press  Shift+ Cmd+N for a new private window.
    • Press +T for a new private tab.

Method 9 of 9: Private Browsing Session In Maxthon (Cloud) Browser

Maxthon cloud is another web browser that is faster than Google Chrome, with builds on many platforms

On Windows, Linux And Mac

















1. Open Maxthon Cloud Browser.

2. Click the menu button. The menu button is located next to arrow number 1 in the picture above.

3. Click Private. This button is located next to arrow number 2 in the picture above.


















4. An Incognito Window is appeared. We can differentiate it with the black person's silhouette in the picture above.

On Android



















1. Open Maxthon Cloud Browser In Android.

2. Tap  (The menu button) on the most-right part of the bottom toolbar.


















3. Check the Private check-box.

4. Your Private session begins. Maxthon Cloud Browser won't save pages you have visited unless you unchecked the Private check-box.


Warnings


  • Activating incognito mode in Chrome will disable your extensions as long as you are incognito. However, if you require the use of certain extensions during your browsing session, you can re-enable each extension individually through the Chrome extensions manager.
  • Browsing in incognito mode may not prevent all parties from seeing the websites you visit, such as your employer, Internet service provider, and any spyware that may be installed on your computer.
